training with bob

My career as a professional dog trainer got into full swing when several of the pups I raised out of Belle returned to my kennel for training.  For 12 years I burned the candle at both ends working my career as Director for the Lee County Conservation Board and spending every other available minute working dogs, hunting, and attending field trials.

I moved to my current location in 1988 to expand my kennel.  By 1994 the demand for my services increased to the point that I resigned from my conservation position and devoted my full efforts to the bird dog life.  The response has been tremendous over the years.  I have trained dogs of most all pointing breeds for both hunting and field trial competition. Thousands of happy dogs and owners have been schooled in the bird dog trade.

Nearest to my heart is the great enjoyment folks get when their dog dreams come true and they shoot that first limit of birds over their well trained dog.  Some of the greatest enjoyment of my life has come while guiding hunting trips with these dogs. Helping folks mature along with their dogs in competition is also thrilling.  Fixing problem dogs has been one of my strong suits over the years, winning with many dogs others had quit on.

I have placed more dogs in the National Gun Dog Championships than any other handler and have won most of the other major championships and classics along the way, both all age and shooting dog.  For the last 13 years running dogs that were schooled and handled at Burchett’s Bird Dogs have been awarded more than 100 placements each year.

I have developed programs, facilities, and grounds to bring out the best in your dog whether a hunting dog or field trial prospect.  Each dog is worked at their pace and in a way to match their individual temperament.  The grounds are groomed to bring out the best in your dog and with a combination of wild and pre-released birds each new prospect is assured lots of game contact.  I leave nothing to chance when training your dog.  My full time assistant/scout Valerie Weaver and I travel the training fields and field trial venues to develop and exhibit your dog’s abilities.

I hope you enjoy the website and look forward to helping make your dog dreams come true.
